I've owned many Miata's but this one is far and away the best Miata
ever made... newer or older. It has all the built-in driving fun of a Miata
but with the power to match the handling. A Miata with balls!!!
But it also gives you the confidence of a factory turbo installation. This car has almost every MAZDASPEED performance option
already installed from the factory and originally came with a 4 year warranty. It is a
conservative design that makes them just as reliable as a normal Miata.
The only flaw in the MazdaSpeed is that the 6-speed close ratio gearbox and the the
very short geared 4.10 diff ratio made it very awkward to get the engine
up to boost level for enough time to get the 180+ HP out off the
car. You had to skip gears to keep the engine anywhere near
optimum boost. I made the $1500 upgrade of the diff to a
longer 3.6 gear ratio using parts imported from Mazda Australia.
It is now setup the way it was sold in Australia and Europe
with gear ratios that allow the powerful 180+ HP engine to
perform to its potential.
The MSM is a low mileage black beauty with all the
extras that make it outstanding. The odometer mileage
reading is currently is 24,324
